“Jingle All The Way” at the Medford (MA) High School on Friday, December 10th, at 7 p.m.

After an 18 month hiatus due to the COVID 19 pandemic, The Medford Community Chorale and Youth Chorus (MCC) is back! The groups received approval from the Medford Community Schools office during the summer to resume in person rehearsals this fall, and rehearsals are well underway for their first “post pandemic” concert, “Jingle All the Way!”, scheduled for Friday, December 10th at 7pm in the Caron Theatre at Medford High School. “Jingle All the Way!” will celebrate the season, and will consist of a varied program of sacred, popular and classical holiday selections.

A portion of the proceeds from the concert ad book will be donated to the CITY-WIDE HUNGER FREE initiative, under the auspices of the Medford Food Security Taskforce.

The MCC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, may be back … but they actually never went away! The choruses were in the throes of preparing for a spring concert at Tufts University, when everything came to a “screeching halt” in mid March 2020, due to the pandemic.

When it became clear that it was going to be quite a while before the groups would be able to come together again, director Betsy Pesce, accompanist Dr. Holly Zagaria, and Julie Kelleher, chorale member and technical director, came up with the idea that perhaps the group could try to create a “virtual choir” video.

And so, the first Medford Community Chorale “virtual choir video,” “Thank You for the Music” (Mama Mia) — with 38 participants — was completed at the beginning of September 2020, and the groups went on to create two more adult chorus videos, two youth/young adult chorus videos, and their final virtual choir video, “Sing!” — which featured the combined adult and youth choruses. Because there are no geographical boundaries with a virtual performance, the chorale was thrilled to welcome participants from California, Illinois, Washington, D.C., and even from Stuttgart, Germany and Abbruzzo, Italy!

Sadly, the chorale has lost two of its members to the coronavirus, and they will be remembered at the performance in December.

Links to all of the groups’ performances may be found on the chorale’s Facebook page: “Medford Community Chorale”, the website: “MedfordCommunityChorale.org” and on YouTube: “Medford Community Chorale”

NEW VENUE: December 10, 2021 at 7 PM — Holiday Concert at MEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL

Good morning everyone,

An update to our previous update:

The Holiday Concert will now take place at the Caron Theatre at Medford High School*, on Friday, December 10 at 7 PM, so please mark your calendars now!  I so hope that all of you will still be able to participate with us on that date.

* 489 Winthrop St, Medford, MA 02155

First rehearsal on September 8, 2021 and COVID protocols

Dear friends,

I am getting very excited as our first “post pandemic” in person rehearsal is fast approaching…two weeks from this Wednesday, September 8 (youth/young adults at 6 PM and full chorus at seven!)

I just want to give you all a couple of updates:

1 — COVID protocols – I have been advised by the Medford Community Schools office that all persons will be required to wear masks in Medford Public School  buildings this fall, regardless of vaccination status, and I will be required to configure the seating in the music room to allow for 3 feet of social distancing.  Special singers’ masks are available from jwpepper.com for$19.99:https://www.jwpepper.com/Protec-Singer%27s-Mask/11341055.item#.YSOdaiX3YlQ

However … The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) guidance states that simply “…wearing a well fit 3-layer surgical style mask reduces aerosol emission”, so the choice is yours as to which mask you would feel more comfortable wearing.

As/if COVID protocols change based on updated data and guidance, I will let you all know right away.

2 — Music/binders – if you participated with us “pre-pandemic” in 2020, I would be most appreciative if you would please bring your binder and “old” music with you on the 8th.  I will have a large bin at the front of the music room for you to drop off your “old” music and I will have a new packet for you to put in your binder for this season!

New members – I will have a binder with copies of the music for this season for you when you arrive for rehearsal on the 8th!

Thanks so much for you understanding and your cooperation.  Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.   Enjoy the “last hurrah” of summer, and I look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks!

~Betsy

More info about the new season, including a “Member Information Form”

Dear friends,

I hope that by now you have all read the great news that we – the Medford Community Chorale and Youth/Young Adult Chorus – have received approval to return to in person rehearsals  on September 8th!  I can’t wait to begin preparing for a LIVE Christmas/holiday concert on December 12th!

Over the course of the summer, I will be sending out practice materials for our concert pieces, so you can begin to familiarize yourselves with the music, giving us a “leg up” in September!

Also, in order to help me prepare for September and update my files, I have included a link (below) to a member information form.  If any of your contact information has changed since November 2019 – or if you have never filled one out! – I would be most appreciative if you could please complete and return this form to me at your earliest convenience.

Although we will miss our “long distance” friends, I am so looking forward to our coming back together again!

In the meantime, enjoy the summer, and try to keep cool!

Thanks so much,

Betsy

Our Latest “Virtual Concert”

Happy “eve” of St Patrick’s Day, everyone!  I hope you and your families are well.

I am delighted to let you all know that – a little ahead of schedule! – the final version of our THiRD Medford Community Chorale “virtual choir video,” “The Sound of Music,” and our SECOND youth / young adult chorus video, “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” are ready!  (Please see links below).

I am thrilled that the adult chorale welcomed 15 new video  participants this time – including members who participated from California, Illinois, Washington D.C., and 3 friends from Abruzzo, Italy! The youth / young adult chorus welcomed 5 new participants!  I so hope that those of you who participated enjoyed your experience, and that those of you who were not able to be with us this time will consider joining us for the next video?!

Once again, this project has been a lot of work, but it also continues to be a wonderful and fun learning experience for all of us, and I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Julie, Holly, our youth chorus parents, and to all of you for all of your effort and your hard work.

I hope you enjoy the videos.  Please feel free to share them with any of your family and friends whom you think might like to see them.  And let’s all enjoy a little “break,”  until we begin work on our next video a little later in the spring!

~ Betsy
