Medford Community Chorale Virtual Concert

Featured

Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone!

I am delighted to let you all know that – right on schedule! – the final version of  our first Medford Community Chorale “virtual choir video” is ready! (see the link below)  As you will see in the opening frames, we have dedicated this video in loving memory of our friend and chorale member, John Farrell, who passed away in April from the coronavirus.

I am thrilled that we ended up with 38 participants (including Holly and me), and I so hope that those of you who participated enjoyed your experience, and that those of you who were not able to be with us this time will consider joining us for the next one?!

One of the nice things about a virtual choir is that there are no geographical boundaries(!), and we are so happy that some of our folks who have moved away or weren’t able to make a weekly commitment to rehearsals, were able to be a part of this from their own homes.  We even have one friend who participated from Stuttgart, Germany!

This project has been a lot of work, but it has also been such a wonderful and fun learning experience for all of us, and I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Julie, to Holly, and to all of you!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

MCC Virtual Choir UPDATE

Hi everyone,

Happy “dog days of summer”!

I just wanted to check in with an update on what’s been happening with the chorale …

A month ago, I shared with you my idea for a “chorale project”… something we could do now, until we can come back together again, specifically, that we “try our hand” at creating a “virtual choir video” of the chorale. After doing a test video of “Thank You for the Music” with a lot of help from Julie (Kelleher), Holly and four of the “kids“ in the chorale, I put out an invitation to all of you to join in the fun! And I’m delighted to let you know we just received our 20th video this evening…with more promised before Saturday’s (AUGUST 15th) deadline!

Needless to say, these are “uncharted waters” for all of us, but we – and I hope all of the participants – are having great fun and learning a lot as we go along! And we will look forward to sharing the results of our first project with all of you.

In the meantime, be safe, and enjoy what’s left of the summer!

Thanks so much,
Betsy

Hi  everyone,

I hope that all of you are enjoying this most unusual summer as best you can, and that you and your families continue to be safe and well.

As for me, I’ve been “toying with” an idea for a while now, and I would like to share it with you.

As you probably realize, it looks as if it’s still going to be a while before we will be able to come together physically as a group to sing.  Things like “live” online zoom rehearsals are impractical … because of the “lag” in the sound, the difficulty hearing, etc.

So, I have been trying to figure out what we CAN do now, until we can come back together again.

Most of you have probably seen some of the wonderful “virtual choir” videos out there…some are very elaborate(!), but some are rather simple but beautiful.  I’m hoping that perhaps as a “chorale project”,  we can create a virtual choir video of the chorale that we can share on YouTube and on our Facebook page and our website, etc.

Before putting it out to all of you, I thought it would be best to do a little “test” first – to see if this is even something that is possible for us to do. So, with a lot of help from Julie (Kelleher), Holly, and four of the “kids” who agreed to be my “guinea pigs”(!), we did just that, and here is the link to our “test demo”!

(For full effect, it’s best to watch it on your computer or tablet, rather than on your phone).

Now that we know that this can work(!), I want to invite all of you to participate (on your own time and from the comfort of your own home! LOL ) and I’m so hoping many or most of you will decide to join in the fun!  (If our project is a success, we are hoping to do something similar with the youth chorus!)

Please let me know as soon as possible if this is something you would consider, and then I can go into more detail with you as to how it will work!

I will look forward to hearing back from each of you.

Thanks so much,
Betsy

On Medford (MA) Community Media Friday, June 12th.

From Betsy:

Dear friends, I have a surprise for you! After I shared the Mayor’s invitation regarding the “Medford’s Got Talent” virtual show, some of you asked if we could submit something from the chorale…after all, you said, “we’ve got talent!” It was my understanding they were looking for quarantine-related videos, but I checked w/the mayor, who said ALL videos were welcome! So thanks to Julie (Kelleher), who excerpted the video of “God Bless America” from our inauguration concert, you’ll all be represented in the show, which airs on Medford Community Media Fri @6! (our friend Fiona Nikoras is in it too!). So be sure to tune in!

Schools Closed For The Year

Dear friends,

I’m sure you’ve already heard that Governor Baker announced yesterday, for the safety of all of the children, teachers & staff, the schools will remain closed for the rest of this school year.

So that means, of course, that it will be a while before we will be able to come back together again & resume preparing for our first official “Medford Community Chorale & Youth Chorus” concert!

But please don’t despair! LOL That time WILL come, when it is safe for all.

In the meantime, please continue to take good care of yourselves & let’s keep in touch…

And keep singing!

Love,

Betsy

*****

Julie here.

As you all may have heard, all Massachusetts schools are closed for the rest of the school year.

This means that we will not be able to rehearse, and that our spring concert will become our fall concert.

When Betsy sends us the official word, I will post it here.

Happy Pesach and Happy Easter!

Good afternoon everyone,

I just want to take a moment, as we head into the “peak” of the virus outbreak, to wish all those of you and your families who celebrate it a happy and safe Easter and Passover…

It is an unusual time for all of us, and I so look forward to the time when life can resume some semblance of normalcy and we can safely come together and make music together again!

Until then, please take good care of yourselves, and I will keep in touch with any updates as I have them.

And keep singing!

Love,
Betsy
